Yassmin's review on 'My Girlfriend's Boyfriend'
Below, Yassmin is writing about the 3 main characters (Jesse, Ethan, and Troy) of the film and the dilemma of which of the two male characters deserve her support.
In the story: Jesse falls in love with two man; Ethan and Troy, who have a lot in common, but still seem very different. Things get complicated when she has to tell them the truth...
Let's make a decision. Easy to do, right? Well, there were things I liked about Ethan better than Troy, and the same goes for Troy. There were times when I thought I knew who Jesse should pick, then Ethan or Troy would do or say something sweet that would change my mind. They both have qualities that would make most women happy. (Gee, I wonder why she couldn't make up her mind.)
For me, there were a few emotional moments (okay, so I'm a softy), such as the support she got from her family, especially her brother. He encouraged her to tell the truth without judging her.
The closer I got to the end of the movie, the more torn I was as to who she should pick. The thought of breaking the heart of either Ethan or Troy didn't set too well. Then, when she picked the guy she wanted, well, I just didn't know how to feel about that. I was happy for him, but cried for the other guy. WOW, talk about confusing emotions! Can't help it though; if someone cries, I'm definitely gonna cry.
Now, to understand why she picked who she did, you REALLY have to watch the rest of the movie. It's really in the last few minutes of the movie that we, as well as the unchosen guy, get an explanation of why Jesse did what she did and why she chose who she chose. Believe it or not, the film does have a happy ending. An ending that I didn't expect. So, if you like good, clean romantic comedies with a few surprises, and of course, a happy ending, then this is the movie for you.
