West Hyde went sailing this summer...
West Hyde Group for disabled young people took part in a 3 day sailing course over the summer...
West Hyde Youth Centre at Maple Cross, Rickmansworth runs an integrated activity group for young people. Youth Connexions workers organise a programme of things to do that involve young people learning new skills - and having fun along the way.
Here's what one of the group leaders says about their sailing experience:
As part of our group's programme we all joined in some sailing sessions in Rickmansworth. Andrew and I organised this activity with the club and took part in the three classes.

Here we are all kitted up to get on the water!
- Left to right: Gemma, Georgina, Elaine, Harriet and Miles
We learnt how to put the masts up, and also how to steer and navigate the boat.

As you can see, it wasn't always sunny.
After some really bad weather luckily we had some sunshine on the final day...

...but it wasn't all plain sailing and here's where we capsized.
Sailing around the aquadrome in calm waters proved a fantastic experience and gave us the opportunity to learn and practice our new skills.
