Welcome to my page
I am here to represent you as one of Hertfordshire's Members of Youth Parliament (MYP).
5th July
Like many of you, I have just been set free from my GCSE exams. It has never felt so good! I have missed being able to sit around on the sofa, soaking up mindless TV programmes without "revision guilt".
In the last term my school hosted a Mock Election. Students were able to invent parties (although Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democracts still stood) then stand as their party leader. There was a great variety in parties - people really did go wild with imagination. Every member of our school was then issued a vote.
Although the "Pirates" party was exceedingly popular, even more popular than the mysterious "Gangsta" party, the heart-warming party "Smiles" stole the show. As tender and as joyous as this may seem, I couldn't help but think that if the voting age was lowered, the future of our country would be held partly in the hands of students who think that "smiles make the world go round". Labour, Lib Dem and Tory results displayed such unpopularity that I do not even know where they came (probably last).
Below is my original statement:
Hello, my name is Lauren and I currently attend Parmiter’s School. There are many issues in today’s society which strongly influence teenage lives. From public transport and university fees to the media and knife crime.
However, recently a friend of mine was involved in a serious road accident. This made me realise that 'road safety' is often overshadowed by topics making breaking news.
If I were voted onto the Youth Parliament, not only would I represent you, but I would campaign to make people more aware of the dangers associated with roads and the importance of being safe. Being part of the UK Youth Parliament is about being heard and giving young people a voice. I believe I can be part of this voice. Vote for me!
