St Albans Youth Council (SAYC)
Written by the St Albans Youth Councillors
St Albans Youth Council is what it says on the tin – an official body that hears the voice of young people in St Albans and translates that into action. St Albans Youth Council (SAYC) is made up of passionate, engaged and friendly individuals who want to improve the lives of young people living in the area, whether it be about transport, perceptions of adults/media of young people or generally just having nothing to do.
How do we do this?
We meet twice monthly to discuss our progress of various projects that we, the Youth Councillors, have decided upon, planned and/or executed. We consult with young people in the district, usually with our ‘MiPod’ – a huge inflatable igloo – so we can shape what SAYC does and says. We inform the District Council, and other local organisations, on matters related to young people including local entertainment, education, travel and other key issues that affect us and other young people in St Albans.
How can I be a part of St Albans Youth Council (SAYC)?
In order to be part of SAYC you must live or go to school in the district and be between the ages of 11 and 18 (Up to 25 if you have a learning difficulty or disability). If you are interested in joining our group, please contact Mrs Alex Ferguson alex.ferguson@hertscc.gov.uk.
