What is a Young Carer?
A young carer is someone under the age of 18 who helps to care for a member (or more than one member) of their family who may be ill, have a physical disability or mental ill-health, drug or alcohol problems.
Are you a Young Carer?
Can you answer YES to any of the following questions?
- Are you under eighteen years old?
- Does someone in your family have an illness, physical disability or mental illness or a drug or alcohol problem?
- Do you look after them?
- Do you help with household chores?
- Do you go shopping, pay bills?
- Do you care for them and help them wash or tidy themselves?
- Does you schoolwork suffer because you can't concentrate or do your homework?
- Is your leisure time affected, like not having friends home or being able to go out with them?
If you've answered YES to these questions, then you could be a Young Carer.
