What is a Young Carer?

A young carer is someone under the age of 18 who helps to care for a member (or more than one member) of their family who may be ill, have a physical disability or mental ill-health, drug or alcohol problems. 

Are you a Young Carer? 

Can you answer YES to any of the following questions?

  • Are you under eighteen years old?
  • Does someone in your family have an illness, physical disability or mental illness or a drug or alcohol problem?
  • Do you look after them?
  • Do you help with household chores?
  • Do you go shopping, pay bills?
  • Do you care for them and help them wash or tidy themselves?
  • Does you schoolwork suffer because you can't concentrate or do your homework?
  • Is your leisure time affected, like not having friends home or being able to go out with them?

 

If you've answered YES to these questions, then you could be a Young Carer.
