How do you catch HIV?

HIV is a virus which is transmitted from person to person by body fluids, like blood and other bodily fluids. The majority of people catch HIV through having sex but a small proportion catch it from sharing needles.

How can you reduce the chance of catching HIV?

Confusingly, the likelihood of catching HIV from someone with the infection is not always the same. Many factors increase or reduce the risk of catching HIV. However, the single most effective way to reduce your risk of catching HIV is to use condoms for penetrative sex. If you are concerned, or want to find out the full information about this, visit your local doctor or GUM clinic, see details for services in Hertfordshire on the link below.
