Official opening of YouthPoint!

NEW! Youth project for young people in Watford

Friday 28th October saw the opening, by Richard Harrington MP, of a new and exciting facility in Watford for young people. Owned by Hertfordshire County Council and operated by its Youth Connexions service - this impressive new facility at 206-210 Lower High Street is open to all young people aged 13-19.

Facilities include an information, advice and guidance centre, a training / life skills kitchen, a multi-use activity hall, an arts and crafts studio, rooms for interviews, counselling and group activities, plus a state of the art multi-media and film studio, and a recording and band practice studio.

Young people taking part in dance and drama at the opening of YouthPoint County Councillor Terry Douris (Deputy Executive Member for Education and Skills) said “Hertfordshire County Council is very proud of this new centre in the heart of Watford providing fantastic facilities and support to young people. The centre is enhanced by the work of trained Youth Workers and Personal Advisers who provide high quality information, advice, guidance, support and a whole range of exciting and challenging youth work projects.”

Young people played a key role in making the opening event a great success and a number of those who had been involved in the planning of the new facility from the outset were there to showcase the new provision. Eje, one of the current members of the Youth Council, cut the ribbon with Mr Harrington, pictured below, to mark the official occasion.

Mr Harrington was joined by County Councillor Terry Douris (Deputy Executive Member for Education and Skills); County Councillors Derek Scudder, Mark Watkin and Nigel Bell; Mayor Dorothy Thornhill and many other partners who have supported this exciting development.
