There’s plenty of support available to help you make the right choices for you about what you’d like to do for a living, and taking some time now to think about your options can really pay off in the future.
Whether you fancy being a politician, a hairdresser or an electrician, the key to finding a career that you’ll be happy in is choosing one that suits your skills and abilities.
Youth Connexions
- If you are trying to decide what to do after year 11, a Youth Connexions Personal Adviser can tell you about all the options, including Sixth Form, Apprenticeships and other work-based training. Contact a Youth Connexions Personal Adviser at School or at a Youth Connexions One Stop Shop. See also the downloadable booklet at the bottom of this page.
- For lots of resources to help you think about your career choices, try Connexions Direct and visit their Jobs4U careers database for information on hundreds of different jobs.
Herts Ahead
A good place to start is Herts Ahead, which can help you find out about the world of work. Click here for Herts Ahead.
E-Clips
- E-Clips is available online and has information about hundreds of different careers. Click here then click the link to access the package and enter the postcode of your school, college, training provider or your local Youth Connexions Centre/ One Stop Shop.
Kudos/ Adult Directions
- Many schools and colleges have software packages called Kudos and Adult Directions. You can enter your likes and dislikes to produce a list of job suggestions and then find out more about the jobs you are interested in. Ask your Careers or Connexions Co-Ordinator about how you can access this software. Adult Directions is also available in your local Youth Connexions Centre or One Stop Shop.

If you want to find out about Apprenticeships, visit the national site or the service for matching young people to jobs called the Apprenticeship Vacancy Matching Service (AVMS) run by the Learning Skills Council.
