It is important to remember that most young people do not take drugs. Every time you take a drug, whatever it is, you take a risk. Taking a risk means doing something that might cause you or someone else harm, either now or in the future.

What does the law say?

  • If you are found in possession again, you could get a criminal record which might affect your future and make it harder to get work or a college place.

Herbal = Safe???

There are lots of herbal substances promoted as having the same effects as illegal drugs. But it's important to remember that just because something is natural it doesn't mean it's safe.

The contents of herbal drugs are not regulated or controlled, therefore little is known about what goes in them. As a result, it's not possible to know what the effects or side effects may be. Another danger is that it's not clear what will happen if the herbal drugs are taken with other drugs (e.g. alcohol, prescribed medication) or food.

It is also important that you are aware that the Medicines Act makes it illegal to sell some herbal drugs without a licence. For more information on drugs and the law contact Release on 0845 4500 215 or visit http://www.release.org.uk
