Getting drunk can affect your actions and the way in which you react to certain situations.  This can put you at risk and leave you vulnerable.

  • Alcohol is a factor in 70% of assaults and 50% of head injuries.
  • One in three reported rapes happen when the victim has been drinking.
  • Alcohol is the most common drug used to ‘spike' drinks
    - don’t leave your drink unattended
    - don’t accept drinks from strangers and  people you don’t trust
  • 90% of pedestrian deaths on a Friday and Saturday night are alcohol related.

Don’t forget some people can have a great time without drinking any alcohol and they won’t get a hangover!!  These are the main reasons for young people not getting drunk in Hertfordshire:

  • They drive
  • Staying in control
  • Getting home safely
  • School or college the next day

What is the law about drink and age?

  • If you are 16 or 17 you can drink beer, cider or wine at a table meal in a restaurant if it is ordered and paid for by an adult
  • It’s illegal for anyone under 18 to buy alcohol in a pub, supermarket or shop

If you are 18 and wish to buy alcohol, you need to carry proof of age ID with you… visit http://www.pass-scheme.org.uk/
