Welcome to Herts Ahead!
What you can find out from this site?
These web pages have lots of information about trends in employment, about the local Hertfordshire picture, the employers, skills and qualifications, and the industries. Each of the sectors has details about the types of jobs, what is changing, pay and qualifications. You will find information about the working world. This is called Job Market Information and includes what will the future be like, the skills employers are looking for and the types of work people do.
This information can be very helpful when you are planning your future. For example; what skills to learn or courses to study, what are your chances of getting into your chosen job, or of finding work. Look at the latest employment trends and what they could mean for your future.
What affects the job market?
The world of employment and industry is influenced by a number of things, such as, global events and disasters, terrorism, the local and global economy, government policies, and technological developments. So although we may predict growths and declines in employment areas/industries, any predictions are subject to change. The 2009 recession started in the financial sector but has affected many different industries. Most predictions prior to 2009 do not include the current global economic downturn. As markets slow down, so does the need for people, many employers do not advertise vacancies and fewer people choose to change or leave their jobs, so there will be fewer jobs.
