How to Choose?

Making decisions in Key Stage 3

Thinking about the subjects you want to study for your options in year 10 and 11 (and for some schools year 9 as well).  It is important to think about what you want to study, and not just do the same as your best friends!  Think about the subjects you are good at, and the ones you think might lead onto a job or other courses you enjoy.  Your school will provide you with a list of options to choose from and you can get further help from direct.gov.uk. There is a useful booklet you can download called Which Way Now.

Making Decisions in Key Stage 4

Thinking about your options after year 11 you will find some useful information in the young people's section of direct.gov.uk. There is a useful booklet you can download called It's Your Choice. You have freedom to choose the direction you want to go in, school, college, work or training.  If you need advice about your next step ask Youth Connexions.

Making Decisions Post 16

If you have decided to stay in education and complete a course in 6th form, college or through a training provider you might be considering your options after 17 or 18.

If you are considering Higher Education as your next step there is plenty of help choosing the right course and the right university.

To find out more about Higher Education including applying for a higher education course, finance and courses available.

Prospects - the official Graduate Website. Sections include 'What do Graduates do?' and a searchable vacancy database.

Remember that many graduates do not go into a career directly related to their degree, so you do not have to choose a course with the same title as the career you want to do, a degree should open up more opportunities for employment.

If you are thinking about work  then you can look for vacancies at Youth Connexions Hertfordshire or apprenticeships.
