My Youth Work experience
By Danyell, 18
Recently I started voluntary work on the Vtalentyear programme for Youth Connexions, involving myself in Youth Work. After I finished school successfully, I went to college and did various things, but I never knew what I really wanted to do.
I thought that I would like to try and be a Youth Worker so I got in touch with Youth Connexions, who helped me get onto a volunteer programme which I am really enjoying. I now do some voluntary work at Waltham Cross Youth Centre. The centre is open to all young people aged 13-19 but so far, I have mostly seen young people around the ages of 13-16 years old.
I enjoy being at the Youth Centre because it offers a wide range of things for young people to do. I get a chance to see young people playing on the dance mat, Playstation, pool table, indoor football, air-hockey and doing cooking. Without the Youth Centre running two nights a week, these young people wouldn’t have anything to look forward to and wouldn’t have anything to do. I think the young people benefit greatly, and I am glad to be a part of that.
In the near future, when the Schools start their new term, I will be involved in more Youth Work activities, I cannot wait! I am enjoying what I have been doing so far and I am glad I was given this opportunity to eventually do for others what has been done for me.
