Britain’s Got Bhangra review

Musical Theatre review by Hari, 17

I went to see Britain’s Got Bhangra at the Watford Palace Theatre which is a musical performed on stage. I found out about it through the events search Mogozout. The show focuses on the origins of Bhangra music through the eyes of Twinkle, a Punjabi immigrant who has come to Britain to find work and instead, ends up becoming one of the founding fathers of Bhangra.

The story follows the decline and rebirth of the Bhangra genre into the twenty first century and changing Britain over the past 30 years.

I liked that the show provided the audience with non-stop humour and satirises the society we live in, while still informing the audience of the history of Bhangra and representing the British Asian culture.

But the continuous use of the Punjabi language and the abundance of the jokes that relate only to Punjabi culture in the play, makes following the story difficult.

I think the play would be ideal for people who are interested in or studying music as it would inform them of the history of the musical genre and how it has evolved over time. I give this musical 8/10
