James Yuill
Music Review by Jack
He may look ever so slightly like an IT Consultant but his music is most certainly not to be underestimated!
James Yuill is one man with one Mac, a handful of synths and an acoustic guitar strapped to his back. On appearances he looks more like a bird watching IT Consultant than an enthralling musical mastermind (no offence intended). However, Yuill is more than capable of entertaining crowds with an electro-dance-folk fusion of brilliance.
Unlike many of his peers, draping themselves in UV glow sticks and looking like they’ve shoplifted hundred of garments from Topman, Yuill’s presence is simple and humble yet forcefully able to evoke as much dance mayhem as is required. On the lighter side, his acoustic talents are also displayed with subtle, mellow tracks such as This Sweet Love from his debut album Turning Down Water For Air. With numerous belters on his recent album, Movement In A Storm, Yuill has an eclectic mix of influences and genres to highlight the versatile nature of his talent.
I would definitely recommend having a listen to both On Your Own and Wild Goose At Night. Alternatively, you can see him by grabbing some tickets when his tour is announced later this year. The lesson here is to never judge an artist by his "cover", especially when he has such brilliant tunes.
