High Contrast – High Society review

By James

This album is the second created by Welsh DJ Lincoln Barrett. High society has a very strong and brilliant sound. The album captures a very distinct view of society today and translates it into a wonderful sounding record. In relation to his previous album ‘True colours’ I would say that high society is much more emphatic and powerful.

The album contains fairly light Drum and Bass, which is atmospheric yet overwhelming. The songs encapsulate many different aspects of a society that is fallen yet still full of irrefutable beauty and love. The song ‘Angels and Fly’ speaks of a younger culture in which the youth choose to live a life that is not right for them.

I have been listening to this album for quite a while now and I believe it truly does suit any occasion whether it be walking to and from places listening to it on an iPod or at a rave or party. I was lucky enough to see High Contrast live recently and it was an experience I shall never forget.

All in all I would rate this album very highly. It has encouraged different areas of drum and bass to be explored further and has spread the genre out over a wider range of people. Songs on this album such as ‘Racing Green’ and ‘Brief Encounter’ have become popular favourites among many people and I can see why. This is a brilliant album and DJ Lincoln Barrett must have quite an imagination and gift to create such an album as this.
