West Hyde sponsored walk
Chelsea and the two Lucy's tell us about organising a sponsored walk at their youth project in September.
At West Hyde and Maple Cross youth project, we all discussed what we wanted to do over the next few months.
After a great weekend away – camping at Herts Young Mariners Base (which was our first time) we put forward an idea to go on a trip to Alton Towers during the October half term making it a ghostly affair!
As usual ‘money came up’ followed by fundraising ideas for how we could raise the funds to do this project.
One of us suggested a sponsored walk, but it needed to be challenging with a feeling of achievement at the end. With this in mind, we decided as a group to walk from the youth centre to the Watford fire station. By car this would take 3 miles.
We walked along roads to the fire station where we collapsed and had our photo taken below outside the building as proof we had arrived.
"We had fun along the way, supporting and encouraging each other."
After a short pit stop, we did the return journey using the canal path route back to the youth project.
This took 4 hours and we had walked about 14 miles. No-one gave up but we did moan about sore feet and the need for food!
We haven’t counted the money yet (as it's not all in) but we also have a sponsored cake bake sale planned for October.
